LOGLINE

During World War I, a young girl, impregnated by the son of her father’s rivals, struggles to build her own family. One hundred years later, an illustrator, creatively blocked due to an infertility problem, tries to fix her great-grandmother’s past to bring order within herself.

SYNOPSIS SHORT

1914. Adalgisa (17) is pregnant by Umberto (25) but their love is impeded, first by her father and then by the war. She waits for his return, working in the rice field and rebelling against her father who wants to settle her down to clear himself of dishonor. Umberto, returning from the front, falls ill and dies. A century later, great-granddaughter Francesca (30), a young illustrator, becomes passionate about her great-grandparents’ unfinished love and seeks to reunite their remains. She thus finds the energy to deal with a problem of infertility and recover her creative inspiration, while tilting her relationship with her partner Alberto.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

My grandfather preserved very jealously for his whole life a box. Inside this box he kept the letters that his father Umberto sent to his mother Adalgisa from the front of World War I. My grandfather never had the possibility to meet his father, who never came back from the war.

About this box, he wanted to bring that with him into the grave. But, as he died, my mother and her siblings disobeyed him. Because the story inside those letters is also theirs, as it is mine.

In Delcisa I decided to have the same actress for the two main characters. I like the surreal element in a very realistic context and I think it emphasizes the mutual belonging of the two stories.

With a sharp subdivision, I want to go to highlight the differences and common elements of these two women.

To respect the territorial and temporal uniqueness of the first story I would like the actors to act in the dialect of Mantova, as for the second part it will be in italian.

As regards the cinematographic point of view, I imagine to alternate the close ups on the protagonist and the long shots on the landscape.
